Urgent & Emergency Care Volunteer- Scarborough
Available from 20th August 2024 to 17th September 2024
With the opening of the new Urgent and Emergency Care unit at Scarborough Hospital in late 2024, we are now actively recruiting Volunteers to support patients, carers and staff in this busy department.
To be eligible to apply you must be 18 years of age or older as at the 31 October 2024.
Context of the role:
The Urgent and Emergency Care centre is the first point of contact for patients who require emergency treatment within the hospital.
Patients that visit the department are often in critical need of care and assistance and need to be seen and responded to quickly. This means that our clinical staff are extremely busy so the role of the Volunteer supports the department by carrying out non-clinical but important tasks to help improve patient and carer experience.
Attendance at the emergency department has continued to rise since Covid so it has never been a more important time for us to support the service through Volunteers.
The primary role of the Emergency Department Volunteer is to be a member of a dedicated team of volunteers offering support to staff and non-medical assistance to patients and carers accessing the department.
This is not a clinical role and you will not be shadowing or assisting staff, however volunteering in this demanding environment will expose you to many aspects of the Emergency Department.
Preferred hours:
Ideally you will be available to support around mealtimes 7 days a week which would be 8 am – 10 am, 11.30 am – 2.30 pm and 4-6 pm. However, if you are available to offer support outside of these hours this will be considered. Typically, you will work a shift of a minimum of two hours up to four hours once a week and will be in a position to volunteer for a period of 6 months.
